EOLA-AMITY HILLS AVADRY FARMED, ORGANIC
Temperance Hill Vineyard was planted in 1981 by the Koo family. This land is believed to be the caldera of an ancient volcano situated along the spine of the Eola-Amity Hills. The 100 acre vineyard is certified Salmon Safe and has been farmed to organic standards by Dai Crisp since 1999. Dai Crisp is one of the early pioneers of organic grape growing in the Willamette Valley. He uses mechanical cultivation rather than herbicides, and increases the efficiency by doing multiple jobs at once, like mowing while in-row cultivating.
In 2012 Walter Scott was offered a single block of Pinot Noir from the north block, located on the crown of the hills at an elevation of about 750 feet. This section has volcanic soils and is directly exposed to the cool Van Duzer winds, which provides excellent growing conditions for the vineyard’s later ripening Pinot Noir.
