GROWERS | MICHAEL ETZEL AND CAREY CRITCHLOW
RIBBON RIDGE AVADRY FARMED, BIODYNAMIC
While on vacation in 1986, Michael Etzel discovered an 88-acre pig farm for sale in the Ribbon Ridge AVA. This land became the famed Beaux Freres Winery and gave Mike the opportunity to dedicate his life to growing the best Pinot noir possible.
In 2010, Mike and Carey purchased an amazing property directly adjacent to Beaux Freres' Upper Terrace, where they planted a 12-acre Pinot Noir vineyard. What distinguishes this vineyard, in addition to the 17 clones of Pinot Noir, is a forest of Douglas Fir enclosing three sides of the vineyard that gives this gentle south slope protection from winds and helps to preserve its unique terroir. The virgin marine sedimentary soils in the vineyard have only been farmed with organic and biodynamic principles in order to preserve the native ground cover. We are beyond honored to work with Mike and Carey and their incredible site.
