KATHY McBRIDE | Australian Superpower
There are no titles that do justice for Kathy McBride’s contribution to our winery. She is more than an Assistant Winemaker and more than just another member of the harvest team; Kathy is a part of our Walter Scott family.
Kathy first visited us in 2016, while working harvest with the Bergstrom Wine family. After a taste through the cellar at Walter Scott, she expressed interest in working a vintage with us and offered to return to Oregon for the next year’s harvest. We have had the pleasure of working with Kathy for the past 2 years now, but we have been enamored since her first day.
Much like Ken, Erica and Jess, Kathy found her love of wine through hospitality and eventually decided to delve a little deeper. She travelled the world while simultaneously working in the five star hotel industry. She made her way through the full gamut of food and beverage operations, which gave her the chance to fully explore her interests in food, wine and flavor pairings.
Kathy finally decided to swap her high heels for some steel capped boots. To completely immerse herself in what continues to be a burning passion, she quit her international career to attend university and work a vintage at Leeuwin Estate in Margaret River in Western Australia.
Today, Kathy’s career has taken her in to the role of winemaker at Rob Dolan Wines in the Yarra Valley of Victoria, Australia. Each September she boards a plane back to Oregon, where she works alongside Ken and the team to craft that year’s Walter Scott wines.
